I have been away from the board for a few months, largely unintentionally. I apologize for that.
My own crazy family life came to a head last Friday when my father suffered a stroke. The stroke likely began midday, but due to his Parkinsons' symptoms masking everything they tell you to look for in a stroke, we didn't realize what was going on until 1AM Saturday morning. Prognosis isn't great. He's alive, but blind on one side, semi-delusional, etc etc and no one knows if any of these things will get better with time. Until now I have been his go-to part time care giver. I've picked him up approximately 90 times in the past year (big guy, too) and prevented many other falls. Yes, my family has counted. So, his balance was bad to start with because of Parkinsons and now is even worse. He cannot stand on his own and also will not be able to direct a wheelchair without running into things.
So now what? I don't know yet. Gotta get through Christmas first. Stand by.
